Protection While You Sleep
Why You Might Need a Night Guard
If you grind or clench your teeth at night (many people do, often without realizing it), the long-term damage can be significant — worn teeth, cracked fillings or crowns, jaw pain, headaches, and accelerated wear to all your restorative work. A custom-fit night guard is a thin, comfortable appliance that you wear while sleeping. It protects your teeth from grinding damage, relieves pressure on the jaw joint, and often resolves morning headaches and muscle tension.
Why Custom-Fit Matters
Over-the-counter “boil-and-bite” guards are better than nothing, but they don’t fit well, don’t last, and can actually make jaw problems worse if they’re not properly shaped. A custom-fit guard is designed specifically for your mouth and crafted from professional-grade materials. It’s more comfortable, more effective, and significantly longer-lasting.
When a Night Guard Fits into a Bigger Plan
For patients with ongoing TMJ symptoms, a night guard is often one piece of a larger approach that may include Botox for TMJ or a full TMJ evaluation. If your symptoms go beyond grinding — or if you snore or suspect sleep apnea — we may recommend starting with a sleep apnea screening to rule out airway issues first.
How much does a night guard cost in Woodstock, GA?
A custom night guard is a meaningful investment — but it’s a small fraction of the cost of repairing the damage grinding causes over time. We accept Delta Dental and file out-of-network claims for most other plans. Our In-Office Savings Program offers a 10% discount on night guards when you add the Plus Program. We accept CareCredit, Sunbit, and Cherry for financing.
Does wearing a night guard hurt?
Most patients adjust within a few nights of wearing their guard. It may feel bulky at first, but a well-fitted custom guard is comfortable enough that most people sleep better wearing it than without it. If you have persistent discomfort, come back in and we’ll adjust the fit.
How long does it take to get a night guard?
The process typically takes two appointments over a couple of weeks. At the first visit, we take an iTero digital scan. Your custom guard is fabricated by our lab. At the second visit, we check the fit, make any adjustments, and you take it home.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I grind my teeth?
Common signs include morning jaw soreness, headaches, worn-down teeth, chipped or cracked teeth, and a partner mentioning that they’ve heard you grinding at night. We can also often see evidence of grinding during your regular exam.
How long does a night guard last?
A well-made custom night guard typically lasts 3 to 5 years, sometimes longer. Lifespan depends on how heavily you grind. We’ll evaluate the condition of your guard at your regular checkups and let you know when it’s time to replace it.
Can a night guard help with TMJ pain?
Often, yes. By protecting your teeth and relaxing your jaw muscles during sleep, a night guard can significantly reduce TMJ symptoms including morning headaches, jaw soreness, and tension. For more complex TMJ cases, we may combine a night guard with other TMJ treatment approaches.
